Lucy's recent work focuses on the nude. Through losing herself gazing at the human form she finds the thread that reconnects us to our underlying nature. She is fascinated by the relationship between the figure and the rich, luminous quality of oil paint – from translucent shadows to sumptuous opaques. She enjoys the fact that she is working in a tradition that stretches back to Velasquez and Titian; the naked body has the emotive impact it had then but in a modern context such different connotations. Echoing Degas, her figures help us to access our own vulnerability.
